The formwork for the base of the ball mill presented a major technical challenge due to the structure’s complex geometry and the volume of concrete required. The foundation was constructed in two phases, including a footing more than one meter thick that required a major pour.
As part of the Bracemac mine’s start-up, Xstrata Zinc Canada added a ball mill to its Matagami concentrator complex to increase the processing capacity for zinc and copper ore. Our team was commissioned to carry out all the formwork required for the construction of the massive concrete foundation designed to support the equipment. The structure, built in two distinct phases, had to meet rigorous precision requirements to ensure the mill’s alignment and stability under operating conditions.
